Family demands resignations following Rob Fitzpatrick’s cell death

A Whangārei man, Rob Fitzpatrick, was allegedly beaten to death by his cellmate at Mt Eden prison in June 2022, highlighting concerns over double-bunking in the facility. Fitzpatrick, who struggled with mental health issues, was housed with another inmate facing similar challenges. His family is calling for resignations at Corrections, citing failures in communication between health services and prison authorities that they believe contributed to his death. The alleged attacker is charged with murder.
