Zendaya has become a talking point on social media as a host of fans agreed that the screen star’s youthful appearance makes her difficult to place an age on.
The discussion kicked off on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, when a post was shared stating that it was 10 years since the release of “Yoncé,” Beyoncé’s infectious rap song that appeared as a hidden track on her self-titled 2013 album.
Following up on that post, X user @notgwendalupe pointed out that it was also a decade since Zendaya was seen in a video enthusiastically rapping along to the track, word for word. Sitting in the passenger seat of a moving vehicle, the Euphoria star was shown putting on an animated performance in a clip that has gone viral on a number of occasions over the years since it was first unveiled.
The revelation that the video was first shared so many years ago left a number of X users baffled as they noted how her appearance has barely changed. They were all the more taken aback on learning that the Emmy winner is 27 years old.
“I just realized I have no concept of how old Zendaya is,” one fan commented.
“She’s a minor here?” another asked of the viral Zendaya video. “She could be stuck in a time loop for looking the same 10 years ago.”
“Like, she looks EXACTLY the same!” read another post on the platform.
“I honestly thought she was still like 24, even though I grew up obsessed with her on Disney and knew her exact age,” said another fan. “I guess you forget when you age, the people around you do [too].”
“Zendaya simply does not age,” one X user declared.
“[She’s] been 22 to me for the past 10 years,” another chimed in.
“If somebody told me she’s still 20 years old, I would agree with them because she’s not aging at all,” another fan wrote.
One X user revealed that they’ve found it easy to keep tabs on Zendaya’s age because of a personal connection. “She was born literally 16 days before me so I have a solid frame of reference every time,” they explained.
Another shared a video clip from 2022 that showed this isn’t the first time Zendaya’s age has been cause for public conversation. The clip in question showed comedian Kenan Thompson hosting that year’s Emmy Awards.
“Zendaya just turned 26 last week. Happy birthday,” Saturday Night Live star Thompson said, before the camera panned to a smiling Zendaya.
“Twenty-six is a weird age in Hollywood,” Thompson continued. “You’re old enough to play a highschooler but too old to date Leonardo DiCaprio.”
As the audience gasped and laughed, Zendaya was seen burying her head in her hands at the quip, which was made at a time when it was widely claimed by pop culture enthusiasts that a number of DiCaprio’s relationships ended before his partners turned 27.
Golden Globe winner Zendaya is currently promoting her latest movie, Dune: Part Two, along with co-stars Austin Butler, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet.
Dune: Part One, released in 2021, received critical acclaim and won six Academy Awards, with the second installment also earning rave reviews so far.
