Yemen’s Saudi-backed presidential leadership council has appointed Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsen al-Zindani as the new prime minister, following the resignation of Salem bin Breik. This move comes as Saudi Arabia aims to consolidate control over Yemen’s decision-making body amid tensions with the UAE, which previously supported the Southern Transitional Council. The council also dismissed a southern separatist currently in the UAE, solidifying Saudi Arabia’s influence in Yemen. Additionally, Saudi Arabia provided $90m in aid to Yemen for salaries and pledged $0.5bn for humanitarian projects.
