Trump may block Detroit-Canada bridge opening.

The $4.6bn Gordie Howe International Bridge, linking Detroit, Michigan, with Windsor, Ontario, is set to open in early 2026. US President Donald Trump has threatened to block the bridge’s opening unless Canada hands over at least half of its ownership. The project, negotiated by former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and financed by Canada, aims to ease truck traffic at the Ambassador Bridge. Trump’s threats are part of a wider US-Canada spat, including tariff threats and trade disagreements, as both countries prepare to renegotiate the USMCA agreement.
