'New York, New York' to play only after Yanks win

The New York Yankees will play Frank Sinatra’s “Theme From New York, New York” only after home wins, reverting to the original tradition set by owner George Steinbrenner in 1980, after players and staff expressed fatigue with hearing the celebratory song after losses. Following a spring training defeat, the team played Sinatra’s “That’s Life” instead, marking a shift from the ban on beards imposed by Steinbrenner in 1976 that was recently lifted to avoid hindering player recruitment, with current owner Hal Steinbrenner taking over in 2008.
