A severe thunderstorm in the Canterbury region has resulted in hail the size of 50c coins, causing destruction to glasshouses and lawns. MetService has issued a thunderstorm warning for Christchurch and Selwyn, while previous warnings for other South Island areas have been lifted. Hail also affected attendees at the Royal A&P show and races in Riccarton. Residents in Christchurch, Selwyn, Waimakariri, and Hurunui were earlier cautioned about the potential for severe thunderstorms today.
