China’s President Xi Jinping visited Tibet to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Chinese rule, receiving a warm welcome from around 20,000 locals in Lhasa. During his visit, Xi called for a “modern socialist” Tibet and emphasized the need for Tibetan Buddhism to adapt to socialist society, amidst ongoing tensions regarding Tibet’s autonomy and its strategic significance near India.
