Community Support After Fire Destroys Whakatāne Home

A Whakatāne woman, identified only as Fran, is grateful for community support after her home on James St was destroyed by fire last week, an incident being treated as arson. Fran and her three dogs were not home during the fire that occurred on Monday night. Pānia Potter, a friend and fellow student in a bicultural social work program, described the situation as incredibly stressful and heartbreaking for Fran. A 47-year-old man is currently facing court proceedings related to the incident.
