A new global 7-on-7 women’s soccer event called “World Sevens Football” (W7F) is set to launch with a $5 million prize pool per event, starting in Portugal in May ahead of future events around the world. Eight professional women’s clubs will participate in each tournament, with roster choices at their discretion. Co-founded by Jennifer Mackesy and Justin Fishkin, W7F aims to provide economic opportunities for players and features a player advisory council led by Tobin Heath, with Aly Wagner serving as chief of strategy.
