On August 3, 2023, 17-month-old Jayla-Jean McLaren died in the hospital two days after being admitted with serious injuries. Samara Jay Glover, 27, from Newport, has been charged with her murder and causing or allowing the death of a child, while a 31-year-old man remains on conditional bail after earlier arrests related to the case. Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Hunter urged the public to refrain from speculation to protect the ongoing investigation. The family expressed their love for Jayla in a heartfelt statement, saying, “Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you.”
