A woman from Hong Kong, Wan Yee Ng, pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle 29 protected eastern box turtles from Vermont into Canada, where they are sold on the black market for profit in Hong Kong. Ng was caught red-handed loading the turtles into an inflatable kayak at Lake Wallace, with her suspected husband paddling towards the U.S. side. She faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, with sentencing scheduled for December 13.
