Northern Mozambique violence increases displacement crisis

The Mozambique government has initiated a two-day forum to address the ongoing crisis of displaced people as the conflict in Cabo Delgado enters its ninth year. Since 2017, the region has been plagued by violence from an ISIL-affiliated group known locally as al-Shabab, resulting in over 1.3 million displaced individuals. Renewed attacks have recently intensified humanitarian needs, particularly as the conflict has spread across all 17 districts. With military solutions proving ineffective, calls for negotiations are growing amidst severe funding gaps for aid efforts.
