President-elect Donald Trump has named Tulsi Gabbard as his director of national intelligence, a move that has sparked controversy due to her positions on key foreign policy issues. Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who switched to being an independent and then endorsed Trump, has advocated for an anti-interventionist stance and has been accused of amplifying Russian propaganda regarding Ukraine. If sworn in, she would be the eighth DNI overseeing 18 US intelligence organizations, including the CIA and FBI, and advising on matters of national security.
