Samsung Electronics is facing a significant strike, with over 48,000 workers set to protest for 18 days starting Thursday, demanding higher bonus payments. The union aims to abolish the current cap on bonuses and allocate a greater share of the company’s profits to employees. The strike, affecting around 38% of the workforce primarily in the chip division, poses risks to South Korea’s economy, as Samsung’s revenues account for approximately 12.5% of the country’s GDP, with potential losses estimated at $20 billion. The government is considering emergency measures to intervene in the strike.
