Fadel Shaker, the Lebanese pop star, has been granted bail after spending months in jail facing retrial on charges including belonging to an armed group and money laundering. He was released after posting a bail of 500 million Lebanese pounds ($5,500). Shaker, who retired from music in 2012 citing religious reasons, is associated with the 2013 Sidon clashes and had previously been sentenced to 22 years in absentia for his involvement with hardline Sunni leader Ahmed al-Assir’s group. Four cases against him remain unresolved.
