In a 1993 letter between scientists, the concept of “horsepower” was explored in relation to the power of horses. Horsepower is a unit of power invented by James Watt, with one horsepower equaling 33,000 foot-pounds of work per minute. While a horse at its peak may theoretically reach 24 horsepower, real-world data suggests horses can achieve around 1.49 horsepower in a short period of time.
