Worshippers seek refuge under church during strikes

In the midst of violence and destruction in Beirut, a group of people gathered at the Sacred Heart church to mourn the death of Sami Ghafari, who was killed in a drone strike in south Lebanon. The community of Alma al Shaab, home to 200 Christian families, has been forced to flee their homes. Despite evacuation orders from the Israeli military, many residents refused to leave and sought refuge under the church. The death of Ghafari, killed while tending to his vegetables, was a breaking point for the community. Mayor Shady Saayah expressed his distress over the situation.
