Waymo recalls over 3,000 vehicles due to software issues

Waymo is recalling 3,067 vehicles due to a software issue that caused autonomous cars to illegally drive around stopped school buses, increasing crash risks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported multiple incidents of this nature, particularly in Austin, Texas, where 20 violations were noted this school year. The recall affects certain 5th-generation automated driving systems, and Waymo confirmed the software issue was addressed by November 17. NHTSA had previously launched an investigation into similar incidents involving Waymo vehicles in Atlanta.
