Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix have sent cease and desist letters to ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, over AI-generated videos featuring iconic characters like Superman, Batman, and those from Stranger Things and Bridgerton. They accuse ByteDance’s Seedance 2.0 platform of enabling copyright infringement and producing unauthorized derivative works. Both studios emphasize that the AI technology has infringed upon their intellectual property rights and threaten further action if safeguards are not implemented. Netflix specifically condemned Seedance as a “high-speed piracy engine,” asserting that it never authorized the use of its content for AI training or generation.
