JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon confronted Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong at Davos, accusing him of dishonesty regarding accusations against banks about the Clarity Act and customer deposits. Armstrong claimed banks were undermining the legislation and misusing customer funds while promoting stablecoin rewards, which pose competition for traditional banking interest rates. Other bank executives were dismissive toward Armstrong, with Bank of America’s Brian Moynihan advising him to simply operate as a bank. Following this, Armstrong withdrew support for the Clarity Act, stating he preferred no legislation over a flawed one.
