Scammers have created an AI-generated deepfake of WA Premier Roger Cook to promote a fraudulent investment scheme requiring a $400 contribution, falsely claiming government endorsement. Consumer Protection WA issued a warning after the deepfake videos appeared as pop-up ads on YouTube, designed to steal money and personal information. The agency is investigating the scam and has reported the fraudulent website for removal. Similar deepfake scams have previously targeted other public figures, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
