WA Gold increases gold reserve exploration with new drilling efforts

WA Gold Limited has completed the initial phase of a diamond drilling program at its Abercromby gold project near Wiluna, Western Australia, finishing seven holes totaling 3,277 meters. Sample results from this drilling are expected later this month. This drilling campaign is part of a larger feasibility study following a favorable scoping study that identified a low-capital pathway to production for the 518,000-ounce gold deposit. Geological assessments indicate that all seven holes intersected the target structure associated with the Capital deposit. The company plans an additional 6,000 meters of drilling this quarter to further explore and upgrade the existing resource. The scoping study suggested a low-capital start-up of A$8 million targeting 114,000 ounces of gold over 4.5 years, utilizing nearby processing facilities to minimize costs.

Why It Matters

WA Gold’s Abercromby project represents a significant opportunity in the gold mining sector, especially given the project’s total JORC-compliant resource of 11.12 million tonnes at 1.45 grams per tonne. The proposed staged development model is aimed at quickly establishing cash flow while minimizing capital expenditures through established infrastructure, such as a memorandum of understanding with Wiluna Mining for toll treatment. Historically, the project is positioned within a region known for gold deposits, and the successful execution of this drilling campaign could enhance WA Gold’s position in the competitive mining landscape. This development aligns with broader trends in the industry to leverage existing resources to expedite production timelines while managing costs effectively.
