Trailer broke apart and hit car, causing mother’s death

A trailer detached from Roger Sydney Samson’s vehicle, leading to a crash that killed 23-year-old Nateisha-Kurstyn Hana-Wetere in South Taranaki. The trailer, which had severe corrosion, seized brakes, and extensive rust, was unroadworthy and lacked a warrant of fitness for nine years. Despite this, Samson re-registered it as new before driving approximately 370km from Tauranga to New Plymouth. He admitted to dangerous driving causing Hana-Wetere’s death in Te Kūiti District Court.
