Passengers on Air New Zealand flights to Rarotonga and Samoa faced significant disruptions over the weekend due to mid-flight turnarounds caused by engineering issues. The Auckland to Rarotonga flight (NZ946) was approximately 50 minutes from its destination when the captain announced the need to return to Auckland. As a result, many travelers found themselves stranded either in Auckland or their intended destinations, leading to extra costs for accommodation and alternative travel arrangements. Air New Zealand has stated that passengers who purchased business class tickets but were placed in economy seats will receive a refund for the fare difference. Affected travelers may also be eligible for further refunds or reimbursements.
