A Mt Eden villa owner has been ordered by Auckland Council to remove double-glazed windows due to violations of heritage rules, which the owner describes as “total idiocy” and financially burdensome.
The Government cites this incident as evidence for the need to relax planning laws to streamline building processes.
However, heritage groups warn that such relaxation could jeopardize Auckland’s historic homes and neighborhoods, emphasizing the necessity of current regulations that require council approval for exterior alterations in special character areas.
