A Vietnamese overstayer, Dinh Vuong, was sentenced eight years after being caught operating cannabis “grow houses” in South Auckland. Vuong, 41, went missing before his October 2018 sentencing but was apprehended in July 2022 during a raid that uncovered nearly 5kg of cannabis. His claim that the cannabis was leftover from the 2018 raid was dismissed by the Crown prosecutor. He faced sentencing in Auckland District Court for multiple charges related to cannabis cultivation and possession.
