Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s office has denied claims that he requested a chiefly matai title before his trip to Samoa. Luxon is visiting Samoa and Tonga this week for New Zealand’s first official engagements with the new governments of both nations. The denial follows a statement from Samoan Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt, who mentioned that the New Zealand High Commissioner had relayed Luxon’s supposed request.
