Virginia Tech transfer Antonio Dorn has committed to Wake Forest, marking the Deacs’ first addition of the offseason. The 7-foot center from Hamburg, Germany, played limited minutes for the Hokies, averaging 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in just 9 minutes per game. Despite modest statistics, Dorn’s size and potential make him a valuable addition, particularly in addressing the Deacs’ need for a strong presence in the paint. He showcased his abilities during the ACC Tournament, where he had his best performance, recording 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks against Wake Forest. With two years of eligibility remaining, Dorn is expected to increase his contributions next season, aiming to bolster the team’s rebounding and defensive capabilities.
Why It Matters
Wake Forest’s acquisition of Antonio Dorn fills a significant gap in their roster, particularly in the center position, which has been a concern for the team in recent seasons. The Deacs struggled defensively and in rebounding during the last season, underscoring the need for a player of Dorn’s size and skill. Historically, teams that have a strong center presence often perform better in both offensive and defensive rebounding, directly impacting their overall success. Dorn’s impressive shooting percentage of 64% from the field indicates potential for higher productivity with increased playing time, which could lead to improved performance for Wake Forest in the upcoming season.
