Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro has released 87 prisoners who protested his disputed 2024 election victory in a possible conciliatory move amidst pressure from the Trump administration. This is the second release within a week, following the release of 99 prisoners on December 25. Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, banned from the election, has resurfaced in Oslo, Norway, while the US has increased military presence off the coast of Venezuela and carried out strikes targeting drug operations.
