Japanese owner NS United Kaiun Kaisha and Vale International have partnered to equip a 400,000 dwt valemax, NSU Tubarao, with rotor sails from Anemoi Marine Technologies. Scheduled for installation in September 2025, the rotor sails aim to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 6 to 12%, with five units measuring 35m high and 5m in diameter. Vale has previously utilized rotor sails on other vessels and aims for a 15% reduction in scope 3 emissions by 2035, including those from shipping in its value chain.
