Akhmadzhon Kurbonov, an Uzbek citizen accused of acting on behalf of Ukraine, has been charged in a Russian court for the assassination of Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov and his assistant in an electric scooter bombing claimed by Ukraine’s security services. Kurbonov, recruited by Ukraine, was promised $100,000 and resettlement in the EU in exchange for killing Kirillov, whom Ukraine accused of directing the use of banned chemical weapons in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The suspect planted a bomb on an e-scooter outside Kirillov’s apartment building, livestreaming the scene to handlers in Ukraine before detonating it, resulting in Kirillov’s death.
