OpenAI is continuously improving its ChatGPT chatbot with new AI models to benefit its 400 million users, but recent studies with MIT Media Lab have shown a link between increased chatbot usage and feelings of loneliness. OpenAI’s study involved over 40 million interactions, while MIT observed 1,000 participants over 28 days, finding that personal conversations and emotional dependence on ChatGPT could lead to loneliness. Despite some users viewing ChatGPT as a friend, OpenAI aims to understand potential challenges and set usage expectations for its technology.
