The U.S. Department of the Treasury has implemented new sanctions against family members and associates of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, amid increased military pressure on Venezuela. The sanctions target seven individuals linked to Maduro’s nephew, Malpica Flores, who faces corruption allegations at the state-run oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela. U.S. actions have intensified since September, focusing on drug trafficking and Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. Maduro accuses the Trump administration of pursuing regime change and seizing national resources, while the European Union has renewed its sanctions until 2027.
