A former US Navy sailor, Jinchao Wei, has been sentenced to over 16 years in prison for selling technical manuals for ships and operating systems to a Chinese intelligence officer, receiving over $12,000. He was convicted of espionage and other crimes by a federal judge in San Diego. Wei was recruited via social media by the officer, disregarding warnings of espionage, and provided sensitive information about the USS Essex, including weapon details. He sold 60 manuals to the officer, showing concern about the Chinese espionage threat and expressing remorse for his actions due to “introversion and loneliness” clouding his judgement.
