The US military has transferred over 5,700 Islamic State detainees from Syria to Iraq at Baghdad’s request. The operation, which began on 21 January, aims to enhance regional security and prevent an ISIS resurgence in Syria. Iraq plans to put some detainees on trial and has started discussions with Arab and Muslim countries to repatriate their citizens.
