The United States dispatched fighter jets in response to multiple Russian military aircraft operating near Alaska in international airspace. NORAD stated that the Russian aircraft did not enter US or Canadian sovereign airspace and were not considered a threat. This type of activity is regularly observed in Alaska’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), which is not recognized in international law. In July 2024, the US and Canada intercepted Chinese and Russian bombers in the ADIZ, raising concerns about regional stability.
