US aircraft carrier arrives in South Korea days after North Korea test-fired missiles

The USS Carl Vinson and its strike group arrived in South Korea to display a strong U.S-South Korean military alliance and enhance interoperability of combined assets, marking the first U.S. aircraft carrier visit since June. The deployment is expected to anger North Korea, which has been escalating missile tests and military readiness under Kim Jong Un, who is currently focused on supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine and may not engage in diplomacy with President Donald Trump anytime soon. Kim and Trump previously met to discuss North Korea’s nuclear program, but their diplomacy collapsed due to disagreements over economic sanctions.
