Urgent appeal launched as DR Congo crisis fuels mass displacement to Burundi

As fighting escalates in eastern DRC, over 40,000 Congolese refugees, mainly women and children, have fled to Burundi since February, with 9,000 arriving in a single day. The influx has strained local resources, with refugees sheltering in overcrowded conditions and facing shortages of food, water, and medical services, prompting urgent assistance and support from donors. Additionally, smaller numbers of displaced people have also sought asylum in neighboring countries, highlighting the need for a coordinated regional response to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.
