Bravery Amid Disaster
In a year of crises, acts of heroism emerged, notably from Dick Eastland, the Camp Mystic director who died saving campers during devastating Texas floods on July 4, 2025, which claimed 136 lives. Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan heroically rescued 165 individuals during the same floods, while former officer Chase Childers drowned attempting to save five swimmers in South Carolina.
