Bird flu outbreak linked to dead cranes and infected chickens

Thousands of migratory cranes have died in a severe bird flu outbreak in eastern France, with up to 10,000 casualties reported since it began in Grand Est. Emergency teams have been deployed to contain the outbreak, which has also affected a nearby laying hen farm, resulting in the culling of nearly all 3,900 hens. Despite containment efforts, the French Biodiversity Office warns that more deaths may occur as new birds arrive during migration. The situation has prompted increased restrictions across Europe, with 15 EU countries experiencing outbreaks this season.
