Man impersonating Ian Beale scams elderly women out of £400,000

John Eric Wells, a conman in his 60s, has evaded police for nearly seven years after defrauding three elderly women out of £400,000 in life savings through romance scams. Resembling EastEnders character Ian Beale, he has also been known as Howard Walmsley and was previously jailed for faking an £8.9 million lottery win. His victims reported losing their savings and incurring debts due to his manipulations. South Yorkshire Police are seeking information about Wells, who may now be living abroad.
