UN calls for independent investigations into Nigeria and Chad air attacks

The UN human rights chief has called for independent investigations into airstrikes by Nigerian and Chadian forces that reportedly killed over 100 civilians in northern Nigeria. Volker Turk expressed shock at the civilian casualties from a Nigerian army attack on a market and condemned high civilian losses from Chadian strikes on Boko Haram camps. The Nigerian military, however, denied claims of civilian casualties, asserting that their operations adhered to international humanitarian law.
