UNSC condemns Rwanda and M23 rebels for attack in DR Congo
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The UNSC condemned Rwanda for supporting the M23 rebel offensive in eastern DRC, urging withdrawal of forces and support to the armed group. Despite Rwanda’s denials, the resolution was adopted unanimously, extending the MONUSCO peacekeeping mission. M23’s seizure of Uvira prompted concerns of regional destabilization, triggering a major humanitarian emergency with thousands fleeing to Burundi. The conflict, exacerbated by conflicting peace agreements, has led to significant civilian casualties and fears of broader regional spillover.
