During a UN Security Council meeting, most members condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, citing concerns over its implications for Palestinians in Gaza. The US was the only member not to criticize Israel but stated its position on Somaliland remained unchanged. Somalia’s ambassador warned the recognition could fragment Somalia and destabilize the Horn of Africa, while other countries echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need to uphold Somalia’s sovereignty. The meeting highlighted differing views on Israel’s actions and their potential geopolitical effects.
