UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has requested $400 million to address severe funding cuts that have impacted operations in 17 countries, including Colombia and Myanmar. He warned that these reductions jeopardize global human rights monitoring, as donor nations, particularly under the current U.S. administration, have decreased their contributions. Last year, the agency received only $257 million of its $500 million appeal. Turk emphasized that the agency is in “survival mode,” struggling to deliver services amid mounting crises.
