The Isle of Wight has reopened the UK’s only floating railway station, the Island Line, after maintenance work that began in September. The railway, connecting Ryde Pier Head to the esplanade, resumed service on May 2, four days ahead of schedule, enhancing travel for locals and tourists. Repairs included replacing old steel and wooden components, ensuring the structure’s longevity and resilience against harsh weather, with hopes of extending the pier’s life by 60 years.
