US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Russian officials met in Saudi Arabia to discuss a possible deal to end the conflict in Ukraine, with notable absence of any Ukrainian official. This marks a significant shift in the US stance on the conflict, as President Trump referred to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy as a dictator and falsely claimed he started the war. Many fear Trump’s eagerness for a quick end to the war could lead to a dangerous temporary halt that would allow Russia to reconstitute its forces for future aggression.
