Ukraine launched a series of drone attacks against eight Russian regions overnight, as reported by the Defense Ministry in Moscow on Saturday.
The attacks seemed to be aimed at Russia’s energy infrastructure, as per an Associated Press report. An intelligence source informed Reuters that long-range strike drones targeted three power stations and ignited a fuel depot. Russia’s Belgorod governor stated that two civilians lost their lives, according to Reuters.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted and destroyed 50 Ukrainian drones.
Ukraine is facing difficulties in defending against the Russian invasion on the battlefield, resorting to targeting oil refineries in recent months. They are also requesting more ammunition and crucial air defense systems from the West, as Russia continues to carry out strikes on residential areas in Ukraine.
Kyiv and its Western allies are closely monitoring a vote by the U.S. House of Representatives scheduled for later on Saturday. This vote could potentially unlock around $60 billion of American support for Kyiv’s efforts to resist the Russian invasion.
