UK replaces competition watchdog's chair with ex-Amazon boss after anti-growth criticism

The British competition regulator appointed Doug Gurr, a former Amazon executive, as its new interim chair following accusations of stifling growth from Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Gurr will replace Marcus Bokkerink, with the Competition and Markets Authority aiming to promote growth by tearing down barriers hindering business. CMA Chief Executive Sarah Cardell thanked Bokkerink for his leadership and commitment to consumers, competition, and stakeholder engagement.
