UEFA has appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to investigate allegations of a racist slur directed at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior during a Champions League match against Benfica in Lisbon. The match was halted after Vinicius reported the incident to referee Francois Letexier, who activated FIFA’s anti-racism protocol. Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni denied the allegation, claiming it was a misunderstanding. Vinicius expressed frustration on Instagram, stating that racism continues to be an issue in football.
